Workers Union for IT/ ITES Industry

Workers Unions– IT/ITES – Disjoint Sets?? Think Again

What could just have been an overambitious dream of the Left to penetrate into the Fast Growing Software BPO Sector (Read Middle Class Vote bank) seems to be taking shape suddenly and man, it is in no small measure.

When I read the article on rediff that the nexus is growing thick and fast even outside the Communist Parties bastion of Kerala and West Bengal, is really making me think, whether this is warranted at all?

What is a Workers union really going to do for the employees of the Industry that is becoming the icon of India all over the world. Here is an industry which is currently having a healthy relationship with the ruling Governments without any prejudices.

Just because the Software Industry now contributes 4.5% of the GDP doesn’t mean that it needs a political face. All of us are dead sure that the industry could not have progressed in such a healthy environment if companies and employees took political sides, and in the process entangled in lobbies, corruption and preferences.

What is a Workers Union going to do in a scenario where human resources are anyway the core of the industry, and the companies are already vying against each other with innovative initiatives to retain the best.

The industry is working under a near perfect demand supply scenario when it comes to human resources. Just because there are one million people employed, doesn’t mean that they need political intervention to take care of them.

It needs further scrutiny before investing in facilities in states like West Bengal and Kerala, where the infrastructure sops may be outweighed by the Left’s intention to use them as gateways of conquering the country’s most promising industry.

As the country starts to respect entrepreneurship as a way of life, these ideas need to be clipped in the bud.

Anyways, as we believe in democracy as much as we all believe in ourselves, let me take your views on this as well 

Hi, Good post! But then wasn't the spark for this ignited by the IT/ITES companies, when they started forming alliances with no-poaching agreement, sharing of confidential personnel files, et al? BTW, the latter happens to be illegal, but the indian authorities have turned a blind eye to it, because of the potential FOREX loss!
